Spring in Kyoto is finally beginning to stir.

Tonight marks the start of the nighttime cherry blossom illumination at Gion’s Maruyama Park.

The bonfires glowing in the darkness, together with the cherry blossoms at night, create an almost dreamlike scene. It is a fleeting moment of beauty that so many people look forward to each year.

The actual cherry blossoms are still in bud, quietly waiting for the moment they bloom. Yet inside the tatami room of Kyoto Gion Tempura Endo, we are now displaying a special hanging scroll that captures the beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom.

The work is titled “Kagaribi Shunsho.”

In a space inherited from an ochaya with over 140 years of history, guests can enjoy seasonal tempura prepared by skilled artisans. The cuisine before you and the artwork on the wall will bring warmth and lasting memories to a still-chilly Kyoto evening.
