Across Kyoto’s revered temple grounds and shrines—from Ninna-ji and Byodoin to Jonangu, Mimuroto-ji, and Nagaoka Tenmangu—the azaleas have once again burst into radiant bloom.
In the cooler areas such as Keage, there still appear to be splendid spots where one can linger and admire the blossoming petals.
I am fondly reminded of the breathtaking spectacle of azaleas blooming beneath clear skies right after a spring rain—a vivid elegance of such sheer beauty that it leaves an indelible impression on the heart.
